State grant updates

Maryland launches Megawatts for Maryland grants; preliminary applications due November 30

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced Megawatts for Maryland on October 26, 2026. The state-administered program will use a competitive, closed-bid auction to help offset development and construction costs for grid-scale renewable energy generation and energy storage projects. The launch announcement describes up to $200 million across two years—not a single applicant’s award. ([energy.maryland.gov](https://energy.maryland.gov/Pages/NewsDetail.aspx?NR=202691))

Key dates and application status

• Publication and funding-notice issue date: October 26, 2026. • Application opening: MEA currently lists the portal as open to new applications. The reviewed materials do not separately identify an exact portal-opening date; the announcement date should not automatically be treated as that date. • Stage 1 deadline: November 30, 2026, at 3 p.m. Eastern. • Stage 2 deadline: January 22, 2027, at 3 p.m. Eastern. Who should review this opportunity?

Eligible applicant categories include businesses and electric companies developing qualifying projects, subject to the program’s minimum eligibility requirements. This is a targeted energy-development opportunity, not a general-purpose small-business grant. MEA anticipates up to $100 million for fiscal year 2027, with the actual total awarded potentially higher or lower. Applicants first submit a preliminary application through My MEA. Only applicants approved in Stage 1 may proceed to Stage 2, when they submit a binding bid price and additional documentation. The later January deadline does not replace the November preliminary-application deadline. ([energy.maryland.gov](https://energy.maryland.gov/Pages/NewsDetail.aspx?NR=202691))

Practical next steps

Prospective applicants should review project eligibility and the required application documents before preparing a bid. MEA’s program page provides the funding announcement, self-verification attachment, bid calculator and financial-model materials. It also lists a November 4 webinar at 2 p.m. and Monday office hours through November 23. These are opportunities to clarify requirements, not assurances of selection.
